Social Engineering a Growing Problem

Social engineering is the art of manipulating people into performing actions or divulging confidential information. While similar to a confidence or simple fraud, the term typically applies to trickery for information gathering or computer system access and in most cases the attacker never comes face-to-face with the victim.

Mr. Jemmott I believe this is a major issue for us in Trinidad.

Social Engineering equates to a form of deception. The key to a successful attack (from the attacker's perspective)is usually persuasion.

If policies and procedures are adhered to as they should or proper authentication and identification procedures are complied it can curb a lot of SE attacks.
Education of users can also prove useful in this regard.
